Celebrating Kuninjku Art in France
With Maningrida Arts & Culture and Musée du Quai Branly - Jacques Chirac
In Western Arnhem Land, the Maningrida Arts & Culture is the guardian of an exceptionnally rich living cultural heritage. As part of the project recipient of the Resonance Grants - Visual Arts 2025 program, Kalidjan Janet Marawarr, artist, and Brooke Ainscow, Cultural Research & Documentation Manager, traveled to Paris to celebrate the heritage and vitality of contemporary Kuninjku art.
The highlight of this visit was the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Balang John Mawurndjul’s contributions to the Musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac, an opportunity to recognise the lasting impact of Kuninjku art on the international art scene.
The trip included discussions on the restoration of bark paintings from the Australian Embassy in France collection, and exchanges around artists from Arnhem Land featured at IDAIA - International Development for Australian Indigenous Art.
